Source & Origin

It was formed around 15 million years ago as a result of a meteorite impact in what is now the Nördlinger Ries crater in Germany. The impact ejected molten material into the atmosphere, which then solidified into moldavite as it fell back to Earth, landing mainly in the Czech Republic. Smaller deposits of moldavite can occasionally be found in neighboring areas like Austria and Germany, but the highest quality and most well-known specimens come from the Czech Republic.
